Processing service: Friction Stir Welding (FSW)

Joining of wide materials is possible using the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) method!

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) softens the material with frictional heat and joins it while stirring with a pin at the tip. By joining aluminum profiles and plates, it enables the production of thin, wide materials that were previously difficult to achieve, and it can be used for various applications. Friction Stir Welding (FSW) [For welding long and large items!]

A high-strength, low-distortion joining method! Unlike welding, it does not use materials other than the workpiece, so the materials do not melt! Ideal for joining long and large test pieces!

The "Friction Stir Welding" that we conduct is a technology that joins materials by stirring them while softening them with frictional heat. Unlike welding, it does not use any materials other than the workpiece, so the materials do not melt, resulting in a high-strength joining method with minimal distortion. It has advantages such as suppression of thermal effects, no need for shielding gas, and no generation of dust, and its application is expected to expand from railway vehicles and aircraft to the automotive field. We can also accommodate long and large workpieces, such as joining a 100×30×2.5t workpiece at 4000mm using friction stir welding! 【Features】 ■ Joining by stirring materials softened by frictional heat ■ No use of materials other than the workpiece, so the materials do not melt ■ A high-strength joining method with minimal distortion ■ Advantages such as suppression of thermal effects, no need for shielding gas, and no generation of dust ■ Temperature management is very important *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) device '2D-FSW'

Since no materials other than the base material are used, it allows for strong fatigue strength and minimal welding distortion in the joints.

This product is manufactured, sold, and maintained by Hitachi Power Solutions Co., Ltd. Our company cooperates with Hitachi Power Solutions Co., Ltd. in the manufacturing and customization of this product. 【What is Friction Stir Welding (FSW)?】 It is a technology invented in the UK in 1991, which joins materials by softening them with friction heat generated by rotating a cylindrical joining tool and stirring that part. Since it does not use any materials other than the base materials, it has high fatigue strength and allows for joining with minimal distortion, as the materials do not melt. 【Features of 2D-FSW】 ■ Achieves "high quality" and stable FSW through unique technology in spindle structure and control ■ A joining method that eliminates arc light, noise, and dust, providing a work environment considerate of people and reducing running costs ■ A joining technology that does not involve melting of the materials, resulting in minimal deformation or distortion due to heat ■ Customizable to accommodate table sizes, strokes, and other specifications according to customer needs *For more details, please refer to the leaflet or feel free to contact us.

FSW (Friction Stir Welding)

Future Joining Technologies: FSW Using Machining Centers

In recent years, the technology for joining metals has evolved, leading to the development of a joining method that operates at lower temperatures and without contamination compared to traditional welding techniques. This method is called FSW (Friction Stir Welding). FSW does not melt the metals to join them; instead, it uses a special tool and is performed on a machining center. Because this method operates at a low joining temperature, the deformation caused to the metals is minimal, significantly shortening the distortion correction process. Additionally, since it is performed using NC (numerical control), there is an advantage of eliminating variations caused by differences in the skills of operators (such as welders). Automated construction using a machining center ensures consistent product quality. Furthermore, it does not produce harmful rays, sparks, or fumes, making it environmentally friendly. FSW (Friction Stir Welding) is expected to gain increasing attention in the future and is said to become an indispensable technology in the manufacturing of metal products.
